Sara Patricia Jaffe was born in Dallas, Texas, and currently resides in Arlington, Virginia. The arts have been a lifelong passion of hers, beginning with a childhood home full of mid-century modern paintings and sculpture. While Sara is inspired by the graphic, geometric work of artists like Frank Stella and the contemporary art of Barbara Kruger, her work flows between soft abstract imagery and more structured, distinctive approaches, stemming from vivid memories, dreams, pieces of music, and stories shared by friends and family. Sara works with oil and other forms of paint, and often incorporates sketches into her paintings.
Sara has no formal visual art education. Her academic path and professional life have been devoted to the performing arts, and Sara has dedicated 20+ years to advancing culture in the Washington, D.C. region. She has been at the helm of philanthropy at the Shakespeare Theatre Company, Signature Theatre, and the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia. Since 2012, Sara has been Vice President of Wolf Trap Foundation for the Performing Arts, overseeing its philanthropy program, special events, Next Chapter campaign, and Board relations. During her tenure, support for Wolf Trap's arts and education programs has more than doubled, and more than $200 million has been raised.
Sara received a B.A. with high honors in Theatre and Dance from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of PathForward (formerly A-SPAN), and is a member of the Board of Visitors of The Hockaday School (Dallas, TX), the Board of Directors of The Inkwell, and is a lifetime member of Leadership Arlington. In 2012, WJLA-TV honored Sara as one of seven recipients of the Tribute to Working Women Award, and in 2015, Leadership Arlington recognized Sara as one of the 40 Under 40 leaders who demonstrate impact through their exceptional leadership in the DC region.
